Lute FP $12 for a digital download hurts. That said...

When it comes to Folk, Americana, Country... all that... most of it I can do without, but when it’s done right, man, it gets something humming in my bones, plucking my heartstrings. This is good.

First there was the lamb on knocking knees and three dead seasons that came to me horn down skull foot and the skull of bees I am a secret and i'll never leave Dip me breast deep in descended bone and the black ram shuffle in the year of old alone among the kids and mutton fold I was a secret and I never told Atlas eater with a jaw for blues and penny eyed man of wounds bones unbuttoned in a halfway swoon leave me out to dry in the skin at noon Old cock from nowhere and the heaven's egg hatched in the wind on one broken leg hard times and hunger was all she said with capricorn and cancer i share my bed You by the cavern under the stairs rung bone and blade all tangled and snares metaphor midnight in feather nettled hair I was a trigger tripping on your stares Black tongued and tipsy from the broken bottle pin legged and pickled on death's black rattle hunger and speed and the white bear throttle I fucked adam and god it was awful

As i was going o'er Arkansas passed my family home, saw my ma and pa waving one hand, moven me on wavin one hand, son where you been gone? Where have you been these five years past? not one letter nor a passing fact hard days have come, hard days will pass and though we trust son, our luck's been bad And while you wandered, found friends, made new played your games as young men do your family's suffered upon hard times and your presence here, brings no sunshine Take one step forward, not welcome now keep a move on, we'll kill no fatted cow waven' one hand moven' me on waven' one hand lord where'd i go wrong

So you're hunting for anne well i'm looking for will did you look for him own by the old swimming hole i'd be worse than a fool to have never looked there and you couldn't well miss will's carroty hair It seems like i just heard your annabel screech have you hunted her round by the rasberry patch i have hunted her low and i've hunted her high and that pretty pink pinafore'd knock out your eye Well maybe she's up to some tricks with my bill as long as there's haymows you never can tell as long as theres ladies my annie is one and she wouldn't be seen with the likes of your son And who but your daughter i'm asking yes who but that sly little bitch could have showed billy how your bastard boy must have learned what he knows from his slut of a mother i rather suppose Will's dad never gave me one cent in his life but he fell for a whore when he married his wife and here is a riddle for you red says it ain't his daughter her father lays Black hell upon you and all filthy men come annabel darling come annie come ann she's coming right now in the raspberry patch and twas me that she asked would it hurt very much And twas me that looked up at my willy and you in the newmown hay and he telling you no then look you down through that old swimming hole there'll be slime in his eyes and a stone in his soul.

I can feel your wings of rusty knives sweep the ground up ahead in the night there are no dead but the very dead and the quick and the light in the head Clear a path for which to initiate a way to clear the heart ache but we see only this tall and well built house these barred windows looking out a tired fence made of bones its a hard luck winning it's a hard hard stone I can feel your wings of rusty knives sweep the ground up ahead in the night feed us your fingers and earthly lights hungry children and starry nights dirty snow capped and newly wed and the quick and the slow and the silent dead I can feel your wings of rusty knives sweep the ground up ahead in the dirty night there are no dead but the nearly dead and the quick and the slow and the dearly led
6.
Once i sung one growing, now i sing one down all the ways of knowing seem so far away now with a heart and a hope and an understanding none could own i used to sing one growing, now i sing one down Machines ate my heart so i carved one out of stone its bigger than in used to be, but very very cold blood goes in and comes out black, its hard and heavy like a heart attack, I used to have a beating heart, now i have a stone Lions took my fingers and turned them all to leaves sand falls on through my hands like flour in a sieve can't hold nothing down like a king with a problem ain't got no crown once i held mine down, now they're leaves dead brown Spirits have gone away and left this house alone the corridor is empty the walls bleached dry bones a body don't exist without an eye to reflect from and the soul divided always flies and leaves you well alone The soul divided always flies and leaves you well alone
7.
Raleigh and Spencer are burning down there ain't no liquor in this town I'll pawn my shoes for a bottle of booze I drink that and lay right down and die I've been all around this whole wide world I've been down to Memphis, Tennessee I played them cards with the king and the queen I rolled them dice with Jesse James I can eat more chicken than a pretty girl can fry I tell some low down lies I can tell more lies than the stars in the skies I'll never get to heaven when I die Raleigh and Spencer are burning down there ain't no liquor in this town I'll pawn my shoes for a bottle of booze drink that and lay down and die You can stomp on the flowers that grow round my grave But they'll rise up and bloom back again You can stomp on the flowers that grow round my grave But they'll rise up and bloom back again

about

With banjos, voice, and drums, Lucas' Black Ram pairs the simplicity and soaring desperation of Appalachian Mountain songs with post-rock textural sensibilities and dark searching lyricism - at times soft and intimate, then crashing with punk energy. Mostly original, partially borrowed from poets and traditional tunes, the songs on Black Ram intend to subvert and explode the violence and madness in gender normative characters from old song traditions.
